Fresh Ideas for Your Bathroom Floor

Believe it or not, bathroom tile has reigned supreme as the go-to flooring option in homes all over the world since 4700 BC. What do you think? It’s a new year, and maybe it’s time to rethink the tile and freshen up your bathroom with another modern option.

Bamboo

Bamboo is an excellent option because it’s eco-friendly and one of the most durable flooring options currently on the market. Bamboo is also chic, contemporary and easy to take care of and water resistant. It also comes in a wide range of patterns and natural colors, from tiger stripes to mottled burl (spiral-like grain).

Cork

You may need to think outside the box on this one, but hear me out. Cork (yes, the same thing jammed into your wine bottle) can actually make a great bathroom floor option. By nature, it is water resistant and anti-bacterial. Natural cork flooring is available in sheets, tile, mosaic or discs. It can be stained any color of the rainbow then grouted and sealed.

Pebble

Does anyone else remember that school playgrounds in the ‘80s were covered in tiny, smooth pebble-like pea gravel instead of mulch? Well, the reason was its shock-absorption and antimicrobial properties. Well the same can be said for using pebbles to create natural, stone flooring in your bathroom. Pebble flooring is attached to the subfloor (or foundation) with the help of a special epoxy coating that is durable, water resistant, and actually very beautiful.
